Peter Byrne (philosopher)


Peter Byrne is an emeritus professor in Philosophy at King's College London. Born in Wallasey on 27 July 1950 and raised in Norris Green, Liverpool. He was educated at West Derby School, then a boy's grammar. He studied Philosophy at the University of York, graduating with a first class degree in 1971, followed by a BPhil in Philosophy at Linacre College, Oxford. He was a lecturer, then later professor, of Philosophy and Ethics at Kings College from 1976 to 2009. In addition he was head of the department of Theology and Religious Studies at Kings from 2000 to 2002 and president of The British Society for the Philosophy of Religion from 2003 to 2005. He was also for several years editor of the journal Religious Studies.
