Pilar López de Ayala


Pilar López de Ayala Arroyo is a Spanish film actress. She received a Goya for her role as Queen Joanna of Castile in the 2001 film Juana la Loca, directed by Vicente Aranda.

Family

She has an older brother named Rodrigo López de Ayala Arroyo, born in Madrid on 20 January 1975. Their parents are Rodrigo López de Ayala Sánchez-Arjona and wife Pilar Arroyo Gallego.

Awards and nominations

In 2001 she won the Best Actress award of the Toulouse Cinespanish for Báilame el agua, was nominated for the Newcomer Award of the Spanish Actors Union for Besos para todos, won the Sant Jordi Award for Best Spanish Actress for Báilame el agua, won the Silver Seashell at the San Sebastián International Film Festival for Best Actress for Juana la Loca and was nominated for a Goya at the Goya Awards for Best New Actress for Besos para todos.
In 2002 she won both the Newcomer Award and the Award of the Spanish Actors Union of the Spanish Actors Union for Film: Lead Performance, the Premio ACE at the Premios ACE for Cinema – Best Actress, the Goya at the Goya Awards for Best Lead Actress, the Fotogramas de Plata of the Fotogramas de Plata for Best Movie Actress, the CEC Award of the Cinema Writers Circle Awards, Spain for Best Actress and the ADIRCAE Award at the ADIRCAE Awards for Best Performance in a Leading Role, all of them for Juana la Loca.
In 2006 she was nominated for the Award of the Spanish Actors Union of the Spanish Actors Union for Film: Supporting Performance, Female, the Goya at the Goya Awards for Best Supporting Actress, the Fotogramas de Plata at the Fotogramas de Plata for Best Movie Actress and the CEC Award of the Cinema Writers Circle Awards, Spain for Best Supporting Actress, and won the Premio ACE at the Premios ACE for Cinema – Best Actress, all of them for Obaba.
