Pomponianus

Pomponianus, a Roman, was at Stabiae during the Eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. He attempted to escape with ships, but he was stuck on shore because the wind was not favorable, so he was greeted by Pliny The Elder in order to help him escape the increasing danger. He had then decided, with Pliny, whether he and his friends had the choice of staying inside and having the roof fall on their heads because of the buildup of pumice, or to go outside and risk being hit by falling pumice and ash.
He was probably the son of Gaius Tullius Capito Pomponianus Plotius Firmus.
