Prafulla Roy


Prafulla Roy is an Indian author. In 1985, he won the Bankim Puraskar for his novel Akasher Niche Manush, and in 2003, the Sahitya Akademi Award in Bengali for his novel Krāntikāl.

Life

Prafulla Roy was born on 11 September 1934 in the Dhaka district of the undivided Bengal. He immigrated to India after the Partition. Roy travelled across the country and gathered multifaceted experiences. Many of such experiences helped shape his plots at a later period. He has written many novels and short stories. The total number of his books stand more than 150.
Roy lives in Kolkata.

Works

Many of Roy's novels and short stories were adapted into cinemas and TV series. His novel Krāntikāl was adapted into a Bengali feature film called Krantikaal in 2003. The film was directed by Sekhar Das and featured by Soumitra Chatterjee, Roopa Ganguly and Silajit Majumder.
