President of the Constituent National Assembly

The President of the Constituent National Assembly was the head of state of the Republic of German-Austria and later the First Austrian Republic, as well as the presiding officer of the Constituent National Assembly. The office was only held by Karl Seitz.
The President succeeded the State Council in its capacity as head of state. As presiding officer of the Constituent National Assembly, the President succeeded the three Presidents of the Provisional National Assembly. The President in turn was succeeded by the President of Austria as head of state, and by the President of the National Council as well as the President of the Federal Council as parliamentary presiding officer. The President of the Constituent National Assembly was therefore a transitional position of great importance in Austrian history.
