The systematic name of this enzyme class is S-adenosyl-L-methionine:protein-L-histidine N-tele-methyltransferase. Other names in common use include protein methylase IV, protein methyltransferase, actin-specific histidine methyltransferase, and S-adenosyl methionine:protein-histidine N-methyltransferase.
