Pyonephrosis is sometimes a complication of kidney stones, which can be a source of persisting infection. It may also occur spontaneously. It can occur as a complication of hydronephrosis or pyelonephritis.Treatment
This requires drainage, best performed by ureteral stent placement or nephrostomy.
