The RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, commonly known as RPSG Group is an Indian industrial and services conglomerate headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal. It was founded by Sanjiv Goenka, the present chairman is Sanjiv Goenka, the younger son of R. P. Goenka. Presently,the RPSG group focusing on FMCG sector, while having a significant presence in the area of power, retail, Entertainment, BPO sector.
History
Early 1800s, Ramdutt Goenka arrived in Kolkata, from Dhunlod in Rajasthan. He started as a banker and then became a successful agent for the British business houses. During mid 1800s, Ramdutt Goenka was assisted by his son Ramkissendas to form a company active in jute and tea. Ramakissendas’s son, Ramchandra, built a pilgrims’ shelter near Kalighat Temple, which today houses Mother Teresa’s Nirmal Hriday. In early 1900s, the fourth generation, Sir Badridas Goenka and Sir Hariram Goenka were knighted by the Emperor of India for their contribution to business and society. In 1951, the Goenkas picked up a stake in Duncan Brothers, a trading company that owned substantial holdings in jute and tea in 1957, Keshav Prasad Goenka became the Chairman of Duncan Brothers. Keshav Prasad transitioned the group’s business from trading to industry acquisitions in textiles, power, cables and engineering started a carbon black company. In 1963, he retained Duncan Brothers as his inheritance. In 1979, Keshav Prasad Goenka split his business empire amongst his three sons, Rama Prasad, Jagadish Prasad and Gouri Prasad. Rama Prasad Goenka established RPG Enterprises in 1979 with Phillips Carbon Black, Asian Cables, Agarpara Jute and Murphy India as the constituents. The Group acquired a stake in the drug firm Bayer in 1985 and the music company Gramophone Company of India Ltd, now Saregama, in 1986. In 1989, the RPG group acquired Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation and renamed it CESC Limited, andSpencer's Retail company was aquired on the same year. The Group ventured into music retailing with Music World in 1997. The Group entered into media with the launch of Open Magazine, a weekly current affairs and features magazine, in 2009. The Mundra Unit, a green field project of PCBL was commissioned in October 2009. RPSG Group was created in 2010-11 after Goenka's father, late Rama Prasad Goenka, bifurcated the conglomerate between elder son Harsh Goenka heads the Mumbai-based RPG Group, while Sanjiv Goenka heads RPSG Group. In 2015, the company opened its first mall in Kolkata Quest Mall. The company entered the FMCG business through a subsidiary company Guiltfree Industries Limited in 2017 and purchased majority stakes in Gujarat based Apricot foods.

It is an Indian electricity generation and the sole distribution company serving 567 square kilometres of area administered by the Kolkata municipal corporation, in the city of Kolkata, as well as parts of Howrah, Hooghly, several districts in the state of West Bengal.

Saregama
Saregama India Ltd was incorporated in 1946 and was taken over by the RPG group in 1985 from EMI, UK, and incororated into RP-SG group during its formation. SIL is into retail selling of audio cassettes and CDs. The company is having three subsidiaries RPG Global Music Ltd, Saregama Films and Saregama Plc. The SIL owns nearly 2,00,000 tracks created over the last number of decades. It is estimated to own about 50% of the music ever recorded in India. It has been intimately associated with the development of Indian music from the time the first recording was made on Indian soil in 1903; the company also recorded the first song in an Indian film — Alam Ara in 1931. The company's products are sold under the brand name of HMV and Saregama. Saregama India is transitioning from a retro music catalogue company to an aggressive content creator across music, films and television. The company, in the last one year, has started investing in new film music, by creating music for films such as Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga, Total Dhamaal and Panga. The company also plans to foray into Bhojpuri film music.
Yoodlee Films
Yoodlee Films is the film division of Saregama India Limited, started in 2017, which focuses on digital releases through Netflix and Hotstar.
Guiltfree Industries Ltd
RP-SG group entered the FMCG business in 2017 through Guiltfree industries by introducing healthy snack Too Yumm. Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli roped in as the brand ambassador of the snack brand Too Yumm for a initial two year term.
Apricot Foods
Same year,The Group bought controlling stake of 70% in packaged foods company Apricot Foods Pvt. Ltd, for Rs440 crore. Gujarat-based company. Apricot Foods has production facilities in Rajkot and Hyderabad. It produces snackspriced at Rs5 per pack and has annual revenue of around Rs200 crore. The aquired company brand E-Vita was added to the line-up.
Spencer's Retail is the retail wing of the RP-SG group is a multi-format retailer providing a wide range of quality products across categories such as food, personal care, fashion, home essentials, electrical and electronics to its consumers.It has introduced the Indian consumer to the concept of organized retailing. The first ever hypermarket in India was launched by Spencer’s in Hyderabad in 2000. Today, it runs 120 stores, including 37 Hyper stores in over 35 cities in India.
