History

Radio-Active-Music.com was founded by Laura Hofford in 2004. While her start in the entertainment business came through theatre technology and design, she has broadened her range to include a wide variety of artist support, including, of course, music promotion.
As fate would have it, Hofford landed a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity during college in becoming an intern for D1 Music Network, an independent record company founded by Jay Gordon of Orgy. During her time there, she gained experience in online DJing, band webdesign, A&R, and eventually went on to be the editor for the journalism staff. But her interest in band promotion didn't end there. The excitement she had gained in working for D1 had expanded to a point where she felt the need to take indie band promotion to the next level for electro/industrial bands. And so Radio-Active-Music.com was born in 2004 as a way to help bands in these genres of music get ahead.
Over the next few years, Radio-Active-Music expanded to include supporting several other music-related businesses. For several years, Hofford served as the online promotions coordinator for Electricult Records - an indie label in Australia founded by Manek of Dead Inside The Chrysalis. Hofford also worked as the head of promotions for Strangeland Records - an indie record store in the Washington, DC metro that specifically catered to electronic, industrial, metal, and punk music - for most of its 2-year run. And from July 2006 through December 2008, she was the associate promoter / booking agent for Midnight - DC's largest and longest running goth/industrial night currently in operation.
As Radio-Active-Music.com has grown, the site has evolved to include several other staff members and freelancers to help with the increasing needs of the bands and the community. All of the staff members of the site have extensive backgrounds in promotion in these genres, and are joined by an ever-growing street team who is promoting Radio-Active-Music.com and its artists all over the world.
Radio-Active-Music.com was initially located in southwestern Virginia, but relocated to Washington DC in 2005. Radio-Active-Music.com has sponsored and produces countless shows at venues all over the area, from small instores to large festivals, working with brand new bands to national artists. Finally, in the fall of 2008, Hofford announced that the company would be evolving to focus specifically on the growing record label and distribution aspects of the business.
