Rahu Abad


Rahu Abad is a small town in Umerkot District of the Sindh Province in Pakistan. It is located about 7.5 kilometers away from Samaro. It is center of agricultural products such as wheat, cotton, sugarcane, chili, mango, onions, and tomatoes. Rahu Abad was founded by the merchant Haji Ali Muhammad Rahu in 1976.

History

In 1979, Haji Ali Muhammad Rahu allotted his private land to the poor for their settlement. Over time, the population of Rahu Abad increased, and several shops and cabins were built in 1982. Today, it is center of many agricultural products such as cotton, chili, sugarcane, tomatoes, onion, and mangoes. People come there to sell their wheat, cotton, chili, and other crops.
Haji Ali Muhammad Rahu worked over the years to develop Rahu Abad. During the water shortage, he constructed two ponds nearby. He divided the land among different communities for settlement near Rahu Abad.
Today, several communities are living in Rahu Abad and its surroundings. It has 15 large markets including, Talib Market, Khadim Market, Al-Raheem Market, Asif Market, Sarwar Market, Ramzan Market, Hashim Market, Ahmed Market, Ashfaque market, Hamza Market, and Rajwani Hotel. Some notable streets in this town are Kolhi Muhila, Shedi Muhila, Otha Muhila, Khosa Muhila, Muchhi Muhila.
Rahu Abad's basic needs are water supply schemes and ponds, hospitals, high schools and street roads.
It has government buildings such as the Primary School, Irrigation Office while a Middle School that is closed.

Demolition

Recently, some markets have been demolished by the government. According to government officials, these markets were built on Sirhindi Shaikh. The government ordered all markets which are built on Sirnhindi Shaikh to be destroyed. Several newspapers reported the demolition of these markets.
