Red Dawn Foster


Red Dawn Foster is an American politician, currently serving as a member of the South Dakota Senate from the 27th district.

Early life and education

Foster was born in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Colorado Denver and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame. Foster is a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe.

Career

Foster has worked as a business and entrepreneurship instructor at the Red Cloud Economic Development Initiative and Red Cloud Indian School. She also worked as a field organizer for former U.S. Senator Tom Daschle. Foster was elected to the South Dakota House in 2018, succeeding incumbent Kevin Killer, who was retiring. She took office in 2019.
In 2019, Foster appeared on C-SPAN to discuss a proposal to legalize hemp in South Dakota.
