Regina von Siebold

Regina Josepha von Siebold, née Henning, was a German physician and obstetrician.
Siebold was raised by her uncle Regierungsrat Lorenz Henning, a city councilman of Heiligenstadt. After his death in 1786, Siebold married her uncle's colleague, Georg Heiland. Siebold was widowed around 1793 when Heiland died. In 1795, she married physician Damian Siebold and worked as his medical assistant. When her spouse became mentally ill and incapable of work she received an obstetrician license in 1807 from Darmstadt University. In 1815, she received an honorary degree in obstetrics from the Giessen University and the first of her gender to do so. She managed a medical clinic assisted by her daughter Charlotte von Siebold.
A crater on Venus is named after her.
