Richard T. Jones


Richard Timothy Jones is an American actor. Jones is best known for his portrayals as Lamont Carr in the Disney film Full Court Miracle, Laveinio in the dramatic film The Wood and Mike of the dramatic films Why Did I Get Married? and Why Did I Get Married Too?. Had a minor role in Caught in the Crossfire which starred Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. He is also well known for his role as Bruce Van Exel, court services officer on the CBS television series Judging Amy that aired from 1999 to 2005.

Early life

Jones was born in Kobe, Japan, to African-American parents. He grew up in Carson, California. He is the son of Lorene, a computer analyst, and Clarence Jones, a professional baseball player and hitting instructor for the Cleveland Indians. He has an older brother, Clarence Jones Jr., who works as a coach. His parents later divorced. Jones attended Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance, California, then graduated from Tuskegee University.

Career

Jones starred as Bruce Calvin van Exel in CBS legal drama series Judging Amy from 1999 to 2005, with his co-stars Amy Brenneman, Dan Futterman and Tyne Daly.
From 2017 to 2018, he played as Detective Tommy Cavanaugh in the CBS drama series Wisdom of the Crowd.
Since February 2018, Jones has played the role of Sergeant Wade Gray in ABC police procedural drama series The Rookie with Nathan Fillion.

Personal life

He married Nancy Robinson in October 1996 and they have three children; Aubrey, Elijah and Sydney. He is also a Preacher/Minister.
