Rio Mamore virus


Rio Mamore virus is a novel, single-stranded, enveloped, negative-sense RNA New World orthohantavirus.

Natural reservoir

Rio Mamore virus has been isolated from the pygmy rice rat in Bolivia. It is genetically related to the Andes virus found in Patagonia in South America.

Morbidity and mortality

RIOMV has been shown to cause a severe, fatal form of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome.
