Robert Alexander (philanthropist)


Robert Alexander QC FRS, FSA was a British judge and philanthropist from Halifax, West Yorkshire.
He was the son of Halifax solicitor Lewis Alexander and studied law at Lincoln's Inn. He became a barrister-at-law.
He was a founding member of the Halifax Literary & Philosophical Society, and was made a fellow of the Royal Society in 1835.
He died in London in 1843 and was buried at St Nicholas churchyard, Ganton, Yorkshire. He had married in 1829 Matilda Legard, daughter of Sir Thomas Legard, RN of Ganton.
