Robert C. Jones


Robert Clifford Jones is an American film editor, screenwriter, and educator. He received an Academy Award for the screenplay of the film Coming Home. As an editor, Jones has had notable collaborations with the directors Arthur Hiller and Hal Ashby. Jones has been nominated three times for the Academy Award for Best Film Editing: It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, and Bound for Glory.

Life and career

Upon being drafted into the Army, Jones served at the Army Pictorial Center from 1958 to 1960 as a film editor, editing Army training films, documentaries, and several segments of The Big Picture television program.
Jones is currently a professor at the School of Cinematic Arts of the University of Southern California.
Jones is married to Sylvia Hirsch Jones, a psychotherapist. He is the son of Canadian-born film editor Harmon Jones, and the father of film editor Leslie Jones; all three editors have been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Film Editing.
In February 2014, Jones was presented with the American Cinema Editors Career Achievement Award.
