Robert Jones (artilleryman)
Robert Jones was a lieutenant in the artillery corps of the British Army. He was known for popularising figure skating in Great Britain and his 1772 trial for sodomy.
He wrote a book, A Treatise on Skating, which was published in London in 1772 and went through several print runs. It was still in print in 2010 as a digitised copy of the first edition. He also wrote A New Treatise on Artificial Fireworks, which was published in 1765.
