Rock Hill Chiefs


The Rock Hill Chiefs was a primary name of the minor league baseball teams that were based in Rock Hill, South Carolina, USA. Rock Hill minor league teams played in various seasons from 1908–1968.
Baseball Hall of Fame members Sparky Anderson and Steve Carlton are Rock Hill alumni.

History

Rock Hill played in the Western Carolinas League, the Tri-State League and the South Carolina League. Rock Hill was a franchise of the Cleveland Indians,St. Louis Cardinals, Washington Senators and Chicago Cubs . The team was dissolved after the 1968 season. Hall of Fame Inductees Sparky Anderson and Steve Carlton were Rock Hill alumni. Anderson managed the Rock Hill Cardinals to a title in 1965.

The ballpark

Rock Hill played at American Legion Municipal Stadium, which was located at the corner of York Avenue and Cherry Road. The ballpark had a capacity of 6800 and 8000 with dimensions of 301–406–330. Municipal Stadium was demolished in 1984.
