Rodney First

Rodney First is a local body ticket in Auckland, New Zealand. It formed in 2015 with a view to gaining a majority on the Rodney Local Board in the 2016 Auckland Council Elections.

History

For the 2019 election, Rodney First selected newcomers Paul Manton and Alya Walker to contest the Warkworth Subdivision alongside Beth Houlbrooke, and Danielle Hancock and Vicki Kenny alongside Phelan Pirrie and Brent Bailey in the Kumeu Subdivision. Allison Roe and Cameron Brewer retired at the end of the 2016 term. Louise Johnston stood for Rodney First in the Dairy Flat subdivision and was elected unopposed.
Rodney First increased it's majority to six members along with its share of the vote. At the inaugural meeting, Phelan Pirrie was unanimously elected Chair and Beth Houlbrooke was Deputy Chair.
The ticket was formed in 2015 by sitting Rodney Local Board members and Phelan Pirrie along with Cameron Brewer a retiring Councillor for Orakei. They were joined by athlete Allison Roe, Leigh based farmer Mike Francis and Helensville resident Brent Bailey in 2016 to front a six-member team in the 2016 Auckland Council election.
The main goals Rodney First campaigned on were to improve transport and public transport infrastructure, provide a public pool in Warkworth and a multi-sports facility in Huapai, in addition to addressing the pressures of residential growth and environmental improvements to waterways and harbours. During the 2016 to 2019 term Rodney First supported the introduction of a groundbreaking Transport Targeted Rate which funded new bus services, park'n'rides and footpaths that were unfunded by the transport agency Auckland Transport.
