2016 congressional election

Stooksbury ran unopposed for the Democratic nomination for the 6th district in Georgia, and won with 100% of the vote, 11,050 in total.
During the general election campaign, he was described as a "ghost candidate," with no public photograph, website, or social media presence. Despite this, Stooksbury won 38.3% of the vote with 124,917 total votes, finishing in second place to Tom Price.
Following fellow Democrat Jon Ossoff's loss in the 2017 special election in the 6th district, it was widely reported that Stooksbury had won more votes than Ossoff, despite not actively campaigning, and being outspent by Ossoff by $24 million to $0. However, special elections, like midterm elections, generally have much lower turnout than presidential-year elections such as 2016.
