Rokhsana Fiaz
Rokhsana Fiaz is a Labour Party politician serving as Mayor of Newham. Previously elected as a Newham Councillor in 2014, Fiaz was elected in the 2018 election and is the successor to Robin Wales. She received 73.4% of the first preference votes. She is the first directly elected female mayor for any London borough. Fiaz has also promised to hold a referendum on the direct elected mayoral system.Personal life
Fiaz was born in Mile End, London to parents who had moved to the UK from Pakistan in the 1960s. In 2009 she was awarded an OBE for services for race, faith and charity.
