Rosedale, Louisiana


Rosedale is a village in Iberville Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 793 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography

Rosedale is located in northern Iberville Parish at . It is bordered to the south by the village of Grosse Tete, and Bayou Grosse Tete flows through the center of Rosedale.
Louisiana Highways 76 and 77 intersect at the center of Rosedale. LA 76 leads east to Port Allen across the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge, and west to a point near Ramah and Interstate 10. LA 77, following Bayou Grosse Tete, leads northwest to Maringouin and southeast to Interstate 10 at Grosse Tête.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 753 people, 264 households, and 195 families residing in the village. The population density was 96.7 inhabitants per square mile. There were 296 housing units at an average density of 38.0 per square mile. The racial makeup of the village was 51.79% White, 46.22% African American, 1.73% Asian, and 0.27% from two or more races.
There were 264 households out of which 36.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.5% were married couples living together, 18.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.1% were non-families. 22.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.85 and the average family size was 3.40.
In the village, the population was spread out with 29.1% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 19.0% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females, there were 101.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.5 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $36,000, and the median income for a family was $39,750. Males had a median income of $30,417 versus $20,568 for females. The per capita income for the village was $12,953. About 15.9% of families and 16.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.7% of those under age 18 and 26.2% of those age 65 or over.

Education

Residents are served by the Iberville Parish School Board. Residents are zoned to North Iberville Elementary School and Plaquemine High School. North Iberville Elementary and High School previously served the community, but North Iberville High School closed in 2009 despite a parental movement to keep the school open. Parents criticized the rezoned to Plaquemine High because of the long distances involved.
