Roy Sanders (Louisiana politician)
Roy Sanders was an educator from rural Chestnut in northern Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana, who was a Democratic member of the Louisiana House of Representatives for a single term from 1948 to 1952, corresponding with the second administration of Governor Earl Kemp Long.
An educator, Sanders, a native of Winn Parish, was for twenty-eight years the principal of rural Readhimer High School in Readhimer, north of Chestnut. As an educator, he worked to promote adult education.
Sanders was married to the former Ottice L. Dark, also a native of Winn Parish and the eighth of thirteen children of Frances Melissa Faith and William Lee Dark, a Lincoln Parish native, a farmer in the Gaars Mill community, and member and former president of the Winn Parish Police Jury. Roy and Ottice Sanders had three children, Benny Lynn Sanders, Mary Faith Sanders Weaver, and Dana Roy Sanders, Sr..
Sanders died in the early morning hours of Christmas Day, 1976 in Natchitoches Parish Hospital in Natchitoches. He and his wife, who died in Kentwood in Tangipahoa Parish in southeastern Louisiana in 1993, are interred at Brushwood Baptist Cemetery in Readhimer, Louisiana.
