Russ Smith (running back)
Russell Conway Smith was a professional American football player who played running back for four seasons for the San Diego Chargers. He had played high school football and basketball for Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and college football at the University of Miami.
Smith was married to Carol, and the couple had one child, model and actress Amber Smith, in 1971. His daughter suffered extensive psychological problems, appearing, in her late 20s, on three different reality celebrity rehabilitation television series, being treated by Dr. Drew Pinsky. She claimed, in various of her 26 appearances over the course of the three series, that both her father and mother had long histories with addiction, and claimed on the third episode of the series Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew that her father died as a result of a drinking problem. She also claimed on the episode that her father was absent during much of her childhood, but that she was still devastated over her father's death.
