Ryan Swain (presenter)
Ryan Swain is a British award winning television and radio presenter, live events host, disc jockey, master of ceremonies, and stand-up comedian. Born in Malton, North Yorkshire, England.
He is best known for hosting live events, music festivals and arena shows nationwide. Swain has presented for Clubland TV hosting the brands live events and shows. Swain also presented the Saturday Night Show on York's Minster FM.
In 2019 he won The National Choice award at The National Entertainment Awards in London. In 2018 he won the ‘People's Choice Award’ which he received at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall for his work and commitment to entertainment and charity, in competition with Tim Westwood and Sir Lenny Henry.
Swain also won The Yorkshire Gig Guides ‘Outstanding Contribution’ award that year. Swain was the runner-up for the ‘Yorkshire Media Personality of the Year Award’ in The Yorkshire Choice Awards. Swain was also nominated for the Kate Granger Outstanding Achievement Award for his charity work. In July 2019 he was nominated for a National Entertainment Award and put forward to represent the North of England in the awards after topping an online poll on Facebook with 3,300 votes which he went on to win in London on December 8th 2019.
Swain skateboarded from Malton to Scarborough and back, breaking the world record, raising more than £6,000 for Louby's Lifeline, which funds Brain Tumor Research.
Career
Presenting
Swain started his career in 2012 as a coat style entertainer at Flamingo Land Resort. A Theme park based in North Yorkshire. Swain was the first presenter of their popular Party in the Park concerts and became a face of the brand.He left Flamingo Land Resort in 2017. He currently hosts and presents various music festivals and events around the UK. Swain also presented the Saturday night show on York's 104.7 Minster FM for a short period., as well as hosting the Saturday afternoon show on Coast & County Radio in Scarborough.
In 2018 he was invited to the 21st annual Only Fools & Horses convention in Hull. It was the first time that it had been to the county of Yorkshire since it began. Swain interviewed all the cast from the show and the fans. In 2020 he was invited a long to meet Sir David Jason at a convention celebrating his career In Bedford.
Swain was the official presenter and ambassador of York Fashion Week. He hosted a series of events across the city including a fashion show for Lady Victoria Hervey and Former Creative Director of Mulberry, turned King of the Red Carpet Scott Henshall. He also hosted an afternoon with former editor of OK magazine Lisa Byrne and interviewed her in front of a live audience.
He officially turned on Scarborough's Christmas Lights 2019 alongside top soap star and actor Chris Gascoyne who is best known for playing Peter Barlow in Coronation Street and Twinnie Lee Moore.
In October 2019 Swain was cast to be a presenter and brand ambassador for Boost Drinks and hosted a pop-up stand-up comedy event in Brick Lane, London for the company with Britain's Got Talent star Kojo Anim and Vicky Stone.
He is currently the presenter of We Love 90's owned by the event company Dance Generation, which is a tour of concerts around the UK featuring icons of the nineties era.
On the 7th February 2020 Swain warmed up The Game whilst on his UK Born 2 Rap Tour which came to Rainton Arena in Houghton Le Spring. The event sold out and had support from North East rappers Kay Greyson, Kema Kay, DJ Cueball and NATO.
Swain is the official host of the Boyz On Block UK Tour 2020 with Mecca Bingo. The new supergroup features Abz Love from 5ive, Shane Lynch from Boyzone, Dane Bowers from Another Level and Ben Ofoedu of Phats & Small with the support of YouTube singer / song writer Jack Rose.
During the covid 19 lockdown Swain hosted his very own live and interactive version of popular TV gameshow Play Your Cards Right. He went live on his official Instagram page daily inviting people join in and play at home. Initially the idea was set up to entertain viewers at home and try and raise awareness for the NHS staff and keyworkers by getting them on the show to play the game for fun. He even featured his own twin daughters Ivy and Isla on the show for a couple of episodes as his Dolly Dealers. The gameshow soon took off which Swain winning thousands of viewers daily and getting laughs from his catchphrase "Nice Two Metre, Two Metre Nice." in light of the coronavirus pandemic and in jest of the original saying by Bruce Forsyth on the show. The show soon gained celebrity interest and had special guest appearances from Michael Barrymore Natasha Hamilton Anthony Costa Keith Duffy Michelle Heaton Tamer Hassan and many more. Swain also hosted a live edition of the game on the Yorkshire Live newspapers Facebook page.
DJ
Prior to working as an entertainer Swain has always been a DJ. He plays club sets and festivals mixing dance classics. in April 2020 it was officially announced that Swain had been nominated for a Swish Media Award in the DJ Personality Of The Year category. He topped the public voting poll and is a finalist in the awards.Comedian
Swain began his stand-up career in 2010 whilst auditioning and securing a contract with Haven Holidays.He continues to perform and write comedy and is known for his one liners and observational style. In 2015 he had online viral success with his comedy videos about parenting and ADHD.
Skateboarding
Swain has been a skateboarder since he was 12 years old. He was once sponsored by Popcorn Skate Shop in Northallerton, Moshdog Wheels and was gifted Vans Shoes for a short period for hosting and MCing skate events and competitions for the brand. He broke a UK record for his long distance skateboarding challenge he did raising funds and awareness for Brain Tumour Research charity Louby's Lifelin in which he skated 54.4 miles in 5 hours and 14 minutes..Artist
Swain is an established portrait and contemporary artist. He is also a skilled assemblagist, painter, and conceptual artist. He is known for detailed pencil portraits. Swain is planning an art exhibition to showcase his most recent pieces in 2020. The former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher acclaimed Ryan’s artwork to be amazing and signed his portrait of himself along with Paul Arthurs from Oasis.Frank Lamingo
Frank is an arm-length puppet modeled on the wading bird the American Flamingo. He was created by Ryan and puppeteer Phil Fletcher who is renowned within the industry for his work and is best known for creating Hacker T. Dog on CBBC in 2013. They can often be seen warming-up live audiences at family shows and events at Flamingo Land Resort.Clubland
Swain has presented on Clubland TV. He also hosts for Clubland Events and presented the Clubland Live Weekender at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in May 2019 and got exclusive interviews backstage with Cascada, The Venga Boys, Lasgo, Dee Dee, Ben Nicky, and Ultrabeat He also does warm-up DJ sets playing Clubland Classics at events. In July 2019 he hosted Clubland On The Beach 3.0 a concert which was held in Redcar at Majuba Beach and saw over 5,000 people in attendance.Personal life
Swain was born in Malton, North Yorkshire. He attended Norton Community Primary School and later Norton College. After leaving Norton College, Ryan studied musical theatre and drama at Westwood Performing Arts Campus in Scarborough.He has identical twin daughters, Ivy-Kay and Isla-Yasmin who were born in April 2015 with his ex-partner Natalia.
At the age of 18 he was diagnosed with Adult ADHD a condition he has had from a young age.
When he was 4 he underwent emergency heart surgery at Killingbeck Hospital in Leeds to repair a hole in his heart.
Charity
Swain has been involved with charity work since he was 7 years old. He has participated in many fundraisers to raise money and awareness for various charities over the years and continues to do so. He is a regular face and host at celebrity football events for charity across the country. He is an advocate for mental health awareness and uses his comedy online to bring humor to ADHD to raise awareness for the disorder.Swain re-enacted a rough sleep for the charities SASH and Simon On The Streets in 2019, spending 24 hours without life’s luxuries and authentically portraying what sleeping rough is like to help raise money and awareness for the cause. He is also donated some of his personal artwork to raise extra funds. Swain raised a total of £1,750 for the charities.
