S. C. Gwynne


Sam C. Gwynne is an American nonfiction writer.

Life

He was educated at The Hill School. He attended Princeton University and graduated in 1974. He also has a master's degree in writing from Johns Hopkins University, where he studied under novelist John Barth. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. He lives in Austin, Texas with his wife.
He worked for Time magazine, and is senior editor at Texas Monthly. His 2010 book Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in the General Nonfiction category.
