Sam Lyon


Samuel Lyon was an English professional football centre forward who played in the Football League for Barnsley and Hull City.

Personal life

Lyon's younger brother Jack also became a footballer. After pre-war service in the Territorial Army, Lyon served in the East Yorkshire Regiment during the First World War and suffered wounds which necessitated him spending 15 months in hospital. After the war, he worked as a wholesale fish merchant and played bowls, at which he represented Yorkshire.
