Sameer C. Thahir is an Indian cinematographer, screenwriter and director, who works mainly in Malayalam cinema while also having worked in a few Tamil films. Thahir made his debut with Big B, the first film directed by cinematographer Amal Neerad, in 2007. Later, he made his directorial and writing debut with Chaappa Kurishu. His second feature film, Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi, was released in 2013.
Early life and career
Sameer C Thahir studied in Maharajas College Eranakulam, and the friendships formed during that period is still the driving factor for him in film making. Sameer's mentor Amal Neerad for whom he handled cinematography in "Big B", director Anwar Rasheed, Aashiq Abu for whom Sameer moved the camera in Daddy Cool, and cinematographer Rajeev Ravi for whom Sameer has assisted in films were just some of them from Maharajas friendship circle. Sameer Thahir evolved from his passion for photography to wedding films to ad films to feature films through a period of time. He says the inspiration for making his own first film Chaappa Kurish as he wanted to make a film which he would like to see that portrays the contrasts of real life. But the film went on to receive sheer criticism for being a mere copy of aKorean film, titled 'Hand Phone'. In 2012, he handled cinematography for Siddharth Bharathan's Nidra and Lal Jose's Diamond Necklace. Thahir directed a segment in anthology film5 Sundarikal in 2013. Later in the year his second film as a director Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi was released. It received generally favorable reviews from audience and critics. Thahir handled camera for 2014 movie Bangalore Days, directed by Anjali Menon. In 2015, He produced the movie Chandrettan Evideya under his banner Happy Hours Entertainments. He produced and directed Dulquer Salmaan starred Kali in 2016. Sameer Thahir was the cinematographer of the 2017 Tamil movieVelaiilla Pattadhari 2 and Priyadarshan's Sometimes. He was the producer of Sudani from Nigeria and Thamaasha, in which he also handled the cinematography of the latter.
