.
In
contrast
to a
Blalock–Taussig shunt
,
circulation
is primarily in
systole
.
It is sometimes used as the first
step
in a
Norwood procedure
.
This
procedure
was pioneered by the
Japanese
Cardiothoracic Surgeon
,
Shunji
Sano in
2003
.
