Santa Anita Sprint Championship
The Santa Anita Sprint Championship is an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually in early October at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. Open to horses three years old and up, it is run at the sprint distance of 6 furlongs. The Grade I event currently carries a $300,000 purse.
Part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge series, the winner of the race automatically qualifies for the Breeders' Cup Sprint.
The race was originally named in honor of the California-bred horse Ancient Title, a two-time California Horse of the Year and a National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame inductee. The name was changed in 2012.Records
