School of Economics and Business, Ljubljana


The School of Economics and Business in Ljubljana is part of the University of Ljubljana and was founded in 1946. It was one of the first faculties in the country to establish new internationally comparable Bologna 3+2 programs in 2005. In 2006 it was awarded EQUIS accreditation. In 2010 the school received business accreditation from AACSB International. Six years later, the school also received AMBA accreditation. With the addition of the AMBA accreditation, the school became one of 77 business schools in the world to hold the Triple Crown accreditation.

Full-time programs in English

School of Economics and Business offers various undergraduate and graduate programs in business and economics in Slovenian and English. This enables Slovenian students and foreigners to study in Slovenia in either language.

Undergraduate program

The school offers a degree in business and economics with two specializations:
This program allows employed executives to refine their knowledge at the school.

Open courses

Open development programs target general needs and address issues facing organizations, as assessed from clients' needs and suggestions. Each program is headed by a program director and is run jointly with other schools.

Programs are provided for individual organizations. An additional program, titled “Business Academy”, is designed as a management development tool for top executives, middle managers or aspiring young managers.

Research

Researchers and activities are organised within the Research Centre at the School of Economics and Business and fifteen applied research institutes.
The School of Economics and Business’ researchers regularly participate at scientific and professional conferences, produce monographs and publish in international scientific and professional journals such as the Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, the Academy of Management Review and Interactive Learning Environments.

Mission, vision, values and goals.

The main mission of the School of Economics and business in Ljubljana, is to expend their horizons and build capabilities for social responsible management and economical challenges. Their vision is to become the number one among all the business and economic schools in central and Eastern Europe, concerning the learning process but also concerning researches and creation of sustainable development solutions. The School of Economics has several strategic objectives. They encourage the cooperation and ask for respect between students and coworkers; They use their resources efficiently; They encourage their students to responsibly resolve the economic challenges they will face in their future. Of course another of the main strategic goal of the school is to provide a high quality learning experience and achieve influential researches. Their values are: respect, honesty, passion for learning, creativity, entrepreneurship and inclusiveness. The school of Economics and business in Ljubljana is everyday working to broad their horizon. They have different exchange programmes and a rich culture of international experiences, thanks to the important number of international professors and international students. In fact the faculty has partnership with more than 58 countries around the world. They also have in general more than 2000 international students per year at the faculty.

Corporate Social Responsibility

In addition to being an educational institution, The University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Economics, is attempting to make positive, impactful contributions to both the economy and society of Slovenia. These impacts are all coordinated through a well thought out corporate social responsibility plan. There are six components to the plan.

Component 1: For a better tomorrow

This component emphasizes the benefits of creating a healthy community where students can thrive. The faculty emphasizes the importance of living a healthy life through the various on-campus sports centres and offering several fitness-related courses. Not only does the faculty emphasize healthy living, but through the SEB LU foundation, students are provided numerous financial resources that can help ease the burden of stress associated with any financial issues they may be having.

Component 2: Corporate integrity guidelines

The SEB LU is one of the four partner institutions that created the Corporate Integrity Guidelines document, which outlines how companies who want to establish good business practices and ethics should proceed in their industry.

Component 3: Sustaining green

The SEB LU is continually looking for new and innovative ways to help preserve the environment. They have done several things, including installing solar panels on the faculty building roof and creating an energy-efficient rehabilitation project.

Component 4: PRME – Principles for Responsible Management Education

The faculty has prioritized the principles for responsible management education when creating the lesson plans for their courses. This prioritization ensures that students at the faculty are being taught how to overcome the 21st-century business challenges in a responsible manner.

Component 5: Mobility Plan

The SEB LU has developed a travel plan that is aimed at reducing the carbon footprint created by the faculty’s activities. In addition to this, the travel plan teaches students how to reduce their carbon footprint in their everyday lives.

Component 6: Hand in Hand

Equality is of the utmost importance at the SEB LU, and so they have created an environment where all students can thrive. This equal environment includes tutoring sessions for students with learning disabilities and adapting exams to suit their needs. Also, for student-athletes, some individuals help create a study plan that accommodates for the time that they must spend focusing/playing their sport.
