Scot Davis


Scot Davis is the former wrestling head coach and legend gym teacher at Owatonna High School in Minnesota. Prior to Owatonna, he coached at Turtle Mountain Community High School Belcourt, ND, Bird Island-Lake Lillian High School, Hutchinson High School and University of Wisconsin-Superior ; After Owatonna, he has coached at Flathead High School, Eden Prairie High School, Bishop Heelan High School, Westwood Community High School and is now serving as Head Wrestling Coach at Sugar-Salem High School. Davis has coached 5 different high school wrestling programs to 5 different conference team titles. Davis has also coached individual State Champions at 5 different High Schools. Davis is the current record holder for most wins in national high school wrestling history with an record.
Davis was a Team Captain and All-American wrestler at Augsburg College, graduating in 1974 with a B.A. Degree. He also holds an A.A. Degree from Normandale Community College. Post-Graduate degrees include two master's degrees: M.Ed-1982 University of Minnesota and M.A.-1995 University of St. Thomas.
National honors/awards include 1986 Bob Dellinger Award, representing the "Outstanding Wrestling Writer" in the USA; Named one of the "Top Rookie College Wrestling Coaches of 1986," by NCAA News and Amateur Wrestling News; 1986 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics -District 14 "Coach of the Year:" 1998 National High School Coaches Association "National Coach of the Year;" 2001 National Wrestling Coaches Association "25-Year Service Award; 2004 Minnesota "Man of the Year" by Wrestling USA Magazine; 2006 Wrestling USA Magazine Runner-up for "National Wrestling Coach of the Year;" 2007 Wrestling USA Magazine "National Coach of the Year;" 2009 "USA Dream Team Coach" for the 13th annual "Dream Team Classic" ; Wrestling USA Magazine's "Master of Wrestling" Award; Coach Davis also served four years as "USA Team Coach" to Australia and New Zealand for Down Under Sports; Appeared in Dec. 30, 2013 Sports Illustrated "Faces in the Crowd"-announcing his 1000th Win as a Wrestling Coach; Davis was presented the 2017 "Lifetime Achievement Award" by the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association. Note: Wife, Mary Davis, was honored with 1999 Wrestling USA Magazine's "National Coaches Wife of the Year," and inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame-Minnesota Chapter.
State and Regional Honors: 1979 MN District 16A Wrestling "Coach of the Year;" 1979 MN Region 4A "Wrestling Coach of the Year;" Big Nine Conference Wrestling "Coach of the Year" ; 1999 Minnesota "All-Star Coach" for Minnesota vs Wisconsin All-Star Wrestling Classic ; 2005 Minnesota "Wrestling Coach of the Year;" 2011 "Grand Marshall" for Owatonna High School Homecoming Parade, selected by the OHS Student Council.
Hall of Fame honors include Augsburg College Wrestling "Wall of Fame;" 1998 Minnesota-Dave Bartelma Wrestling Hall of Fame; 1998 "Distinguished Alumnus" Bloomington-Kennedy High School ; 1998 NHSCA National Hall of Fame ; 2007 Region One-Mayo Civic Center Wrestling Hall of Fame; 2008 John F. Kennedy High School Athletic Hall of Fame ; 2013 National Wrestling Hall of Fame-Minnesota Chapter ; 2015 Augsburg College Athletic Hall of Fame.
