Etymology

The name of the train commemorates the bridge built by Sree Rama. The King of Ramanathapuram Samasthanam in Tamil Nadu bore the title Sethupathy.

Route

The main cities covered by the route are Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Vriddhachalam, Ariyalur, Tiruchirapalli, Pudukkottai, Karaikkudi, Sivagangai, Manamadurai, Paramakudi, Ramanathapuram. From Tiruchirappalli to Chennai Egmore, this train is hauled by RPM/WAP7 or AJJ/WAP4 Electric loco, and the section between Tiruchirappalli and Rameshwaram is hauled by GOC WDP3A/ ED WDM3D Diesel Loco. In between the Tiruchirappalli and Tambaram, this train achieves a maximum speed of 110 km/Hr.
