Shaktan Thampuran Private Bus Stand


The Sakthan Thampuran Private Bus Stand is the third largest private bus terminal in Kerala, India and is located at the southern part of the Thrissur city. it is under the control of Thrissur Municipal Corporation. It is the origin point of buses proceeding towards Thripryar, Kanjani, Cherpu), Kozhikode, Kunnamkulam, Guruvayoor, Chavakkad, Kuttippuram, Kodungallore, Irinjalakuda, Ollur, Peechi, Palakkad, Manjeri, Perinthalmanna. Sakthan Thampuran bus stand is 1 kilometre away from Thrissur City.
As of 2015, over 1200 buses conduct service in the terminal and over 3500 services are conducted daily.

History

The southern private bus stand is named after the ruler Sakthan Thampuran and is in Shaktan Thampuran Nagar, which is also named after him. Shaktan Thampuran Private Bus Stand is situated in one of the most important commercial areas of Thrissur city. Earlier, the place which is now called Shaktan Thampuran Nagar was a vast paddy field. Due to the arrival of Pope John Paul II in Thrissur, the paddy field was converted to this form. Now it has become a major commercial hub of Kerala.
