Corporation Election 2017
The BJP became the single largest party in the 2017 Municipal Corporation elections with 17 out of the 34 seats, falling short of an absolute majority by just 1 seat, creating history by destroying the bastion of INC and might form the new MC too. It is for the first time in the history of Shimla Municipal Corporation that the saffron party has managed to secure the majority. Soon after the results, 1 victorious independent, Rakesh Kumar Sharma, joined BJP helping it reach the majority mark. Kusum Sardet of the BJP was elected as the Mayor of Shimla by defeating Congress candidate Simi Nanda creating history by bagging the post for the first time. Worst performance came out for CPI which only managed to win one seat that too in their only stronghold.S.No. | Party name | Party flag or symbol | Number of corporators |
