Skakavac, Sarajevo


Skakavac is a waterfall located about 12 km from Sarajevo, north of the city center above the village of Nahorevo. It is one of the largest waterfalls in the Balkans. The waterfall is 98 meters high. It originates from the stream of the same name, which flows below the peak of Bukovik, and flows into the Perak creek. Vegetation around the waterfall is full of various endemic and relict plants. Trails of Skakavac are famous and beloved by mountain bikers, as well as those wanting easy walk and rest in nature.
In 2002, Skakavac waterfall with its surroundings was declared by Sarajevo Canton a monument of nature.
Skakavac Waterfall is listed in the BASE JUMP location, under the name Gogo Base Jump Skakavac.

Round tour trail

The start of the trail can be reached by foot and by car. In order to reach the waterfall by foot, it is possible to take a bus from Sutjeska to Nahorevo, and then by foot from Nahorevo to the Skakavac Waterfall using marked paths.
In order to reach the waterfall by car, this can be done directly from Sarajevo, through Nahorevo to the Nature Preserve Skakavac. Cars are prohibited after the stop ramp but it is possible to hike down to the waterfall. It is possible to reach the Skakavac Waterfall by foot, hiking through trails that lead under the waterfall. Along the trail, there are places with tables and benches ideal for picnics.
