Skogn (municipality)


Skogn is a former municipality in the old Nord-Trøndelag county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1962. The municipality was located to the south and southwest of the town of Levanger in what is now Levanger municipality in Trøndelag county. The administrative centre was the village of Skogn.

History

The prestegjeld of Skogn was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838. On 28 November 1874, a royal resolution moved two uninhabited parts of Skogn to the neighboring municipality of Levanger landsogn. During the 1960s, there were many municipal mergers across Norway due to the work of the Schei Committee. On 1 January 1962, the town of Levanger was merged with the neighboring municipalities of Frol, Åsen, and Skogn to form a new, larger municipality called Levanger.

Government

All municipalities in Norway, including Skogn, are responsible for primary education, outpatient health services, senior citizen services, unemployment and other social services, zoning, economic development, and municipal roads. The municipality is governed by a municipal council of elected representatives, which in turn elects a mayor.

The municipal council of Skogn was made up of representatives that were elected to four year terms. The party breakdown of the final municipal council was as follows:
