Snertingdal


Snertingdal is a former municipality in Oppland county, Norway.
It was created by a split from Biri on January 1, 1910. At that time Snertingdal had a population of 2,028.
On 1 January 1964 Snertingdal was incorporated into Gjøvik, along with Biri and Vardal. Prior to the merger Snertingdal had a population of 2,471.

The name

The Norse form of the name was Snartheimsdalr. The dalr m is named after the old farm Snartheimr. The first element in this name is maybe an old rivername, the last element is heimr.
Until 1918 the name was written "Snertingdalen".
