Solar is surrounded by Vendipalayam in the north, Lakkapuram in the south-west and Transport Nagar in the south-east. Solar is now part of Erode city. This area was proposed for the upcoming new Mofussil Bus Terminus for the south-bound buses, to reduce the burden in Central Bus Terminus. The exact location of the Bus Terminus is still not clearly announced. But it is said that the location near Solar R.T.O. and the place near the Vendipalayam Railway bridge are under consideration. The arterial road connecting Erode Central Bus Station to the southern Tamil Nadu, runs through the heart of the town. It is a developing area due to the initiation of various educational institutions and group of Industries.
Solar Junction
The area received its name due to the physical road junction of two major roads at this location. One of the branches leads towards "Karur" and the other towards "Mulanur". It is called as Solar Pirivu in Tamil.
Solar Corner
Solar Corner is about one kilometer north Solar Junction where HP petrol pump lies. The Karur and Mulanur Highways join at Solar junction and pass towards solar corner as a single highway for about 1 km. At solar corner, again two major roads split and both enter into the city. One which passes through Carmel, bypass kollampalayam. And the other road passes through the shop 'Nilgiris', Vendipalayam, Periyar Hall and reaches Panneer selvam Park
Residential Areas
More than four decades ago, Solar used to be full of agriculture lands. Today, due to the expansion of Erode City, Solar is becoming a residential area. Some of the major residential colonies include E.B. Colony, Eranian Street, Lakshmi Nagar, C.S.I. Colony, Balusamy Nagar, Municipal Nagar,Roja Nagar, Transport Nagar, Puthuvalasu and Lakkapuram.
