Sonia Fergina Citra was born in Tanjung Pandan, now sits on the province of Bangka Belitung Islands. Sonia works for a national distributor company in Jakarta as a Digital Marketing Manager. Sonia started her career as a model in 2005, through the selection of Bangka Belitung Youth Model Faces. She is the youngest of her 6 siblings and loves Muay Thai, taekwondo and capoeira. She is active in various social causes associated with the organization “Diberi Untuk Memberi.” Sonia helps in providing free food to earthquake victims, school renovation and education assistance, and she is also involved in environmental conservation activities related coral reef adoption at Tanjung Kelayang Beach, Belitung.
On March 9, 2018, she was crowned Puteri Indonesia 2018 at the Jakarta Convention Center by outgoing title-holder Bunga Jelitha. Prior to Joining the pageantry, Sonia was working as a Digital Marketing Manager before she decided to make the breakthrough and follow her childhood dream, which is to represent her country on an international level. Since she was crowned as Puteri Indonesia 2018, she has advocated for HIV awareness, Breast and Cervical cancer, creating Mental Healingfor the children and victims of natural calamities and disaster, where in Palu and Lombok. On November 21 she shared her appearance together with NCCC Indonesia at national congress Duta Kanker Serviks - Jakarta for Indonesia cervical Cancer Day. She's also work together with local NGO called Nara Creative, creating the #BeDiverseBeTolerant notebook filled with her biodiversity family background and how's she survived from bullying at school.
Miss Universe 2018
Sonia represented Indonesia at the Miss Universe 2018 pageant in Bangkok, Thailand, and out of 94 contestants she was placed as a Top 20 semi-finalist. She was one of the wildcard for Top 20 and the 18th finalist to be called in random order. Continuing the placements of her country as 6th Miss Universe finalist from Indonesia, since the first time at 2005, Artika Sari Devi which also from Bangka Belitung, was place in the Top 15 finalist competed in Bangkok - Thailand.
