Soumodip Sarkar


Soumodip Sarkar is an economist and management scholar. He is a professor in the Department of Management, University of Évora, Portugal, and also a vice-rector of the university. He was a three-year fellow of the Asia Center at Harvard University from 2015 to 2018. He is also the executive president of the Science Park of the region of Alentejo. He is the president of the External Evaluation team of the Portuguese University Evaluation Commission. Previously he was the Dean of the Doctoral School, and prior to that, was the director for the Centre of Advanced Studies in Management and Economics as well as the coordinator of the Program in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Sarkar is a member of the WEF Innovation 100 named by the World Economic Forum.
He studied economics at the University of Calcutta, graduating 1988, and received his MSc and PhD in economics from Northeastern University, Boston in 1991 and 1995, respectively. He previously worked at the Harvard Institute for International Development and later in the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. In regards to his personal life, Soumodip has four children: Joana, Bruno, Raul and Vasco.
