Springfield Browns


The Springfield Browns were a Class B minor league baseball team based in Springfield, Illinois. The Springfield Browns were members of the Illinois–Indiana–Iowa League in 1931, 1938–1942 and 1946–1949.
Springfield played as the Springfield Senators in 1932–1933 and 1935.
The Springfield Browns were an affiliate of the St. Louis Browns.

The ballparks

The Springfield Browns played at Reservoir Park in 1931.
Beginning in 1936, the Springfield Browns played at Lanphier Park.
Lanphier Park was built in 1925 at a cost of $49,000. Lanphier Park had a capacity of 4,500 and dimensions : 320–400–320. Still in use today, Lanpnier Park is located at the intersection of Converse and Grand Avenues and 15th Street, Springfield, Illinois.
The ballpark is known today as Robin Roberts Stadium at Lanphier Park and is home to the Springfield Sliders, a collegiate summer league baseball team that plays as a member of the Prospect League.
