St David's Day Agreement


The St David's Day Agreement was a contested term used to describe a document which set out the proposals of UK coalition government. It was published in the command paper Powers for a purpose: Towards a lasting devolution settlement for Wales, also known as the St David's Day Command Paper. The document was announced on 27 February 2015, by David Cameron, the UK Prime Minister and Nick Clegg, the UK Deputy Prime Minister at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.
The term 'St David's Day Agreement' was controversial in Wales since it gave the impression that it was an agreement between governments or parties to a negotiation akin to the Good Friday Agreement, when in fact it was simply a Policy Announcement of the Government in
London, not involving the Government in Cardiff.
