Stamnes Church


Stamnes Church is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Vaksdal Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Stamneshella. It is the church for the Stamnes parish which is part of the Hardanger og Voss prosti in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1861 using designs by the architect Peter Høier Holtermann using standardized plans from Jacob Wilhelm Nordan. The church seats about 250 people. The church was consecrated on 20 October 1861.

History

The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1328. In the 1686, the old stave church was torn down and replaced with a timber-framed building. In 1861, the old church was torn down and replaced with a present church building.
