Star Fleet Universe
The Star Fleet Universe is the variant of the Star Trek fictional universe detailed in the series of Star Fleet Battles games from Amarillo Design Bureau Inc. and used as reference for the series of computer games. Its source material stems from the original and animated series of Star Trek as well as from other fan sources, such as Star Trek Star Fleet Technical Manual. It also includes a substantial number of new races and technologies, such as the Hydran Kingdom, the Inter-Stellar Concordium, and the Andromedans.
Star Fleet Battles was based on the Star Trek universe as of 1979 and includes elements of ' and '. Federation elements were heavily based on concepts from The Star Trek Star Fleet Technical Manual. Unlike the mainstream Star Trek universe, Star Fleet Battles seems to consider some, but not all, of ' as a canon material source, leading to the inclusion of aliens such as the Kzinti, which had originally been created for a non-Trek story series.
Since the first publication of the game, Star Fleet Battles and the Star Trek universe have diverged considerably as the authors of the game and those of the films and television series have ignored each other. The resulting divergent world of Star Fleet Battles is known as the "Star Fleet Universe".
Games set in this universe include the tactical board wargames Star Fleet Battles, Federation Commander, Star Fleet Marines, Star Fleet Armada, and ' ; the strategic wargame Federation and Empire; the card game Star Fleet Battle Force; Star Fleet Missions, and the role-playing game Prime Directive in editions for the GURPS, D20 and D20 Modern game systems. Also, ADB produces Captain's Log, a non-periodical journal published roughly semi-annually with additional SFU background material, starship information and reports from various game events and tournaments.
The games draw on this universe considerably yet maintain a number of elements not found in the original Star Fleet Universe, such as movie-era ships and the Meskeen race for the ISC.
Nature of the Galaxy
In the Star Fleet Universe, the Milky Way Galaxy is divided up into 24 sectors, each named for the letters of the Greek alphabet. Each sector extends from the galactic rim, and inwards to where star density and radiation problems cause ion storms, precluding travel. There are five 'void' sectors, where star and planet density is low, and which tend to generate large ion storms and radiation clouds, restricting travel from one set of sectors to another. This leads to the sectors in between to be grouped together in sets of three, termed 'octants', as three sectors are one eighth of the rim of the galaxy, and which are sometimes inaccurately referred to as 'sectors' themselves. The Storm Zone is unoccupied, as even bases cannot exist there due to the severity of the storms, and ships cannot penetrate the Radiation Zone. The Core of the galaxy has never been explored.
The five areas into which the Voids separate the inhabitable portions of the galaxy are the Alpha Octant, the Sargasso Octant, the Xorkaelian Empire, the Sigma Octant, and the Omega Octant.
Alpha Octant
The Alpha Octant is the primary setting of the Star Fleet Universe, being home to the United Federation of Planets, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, and all the other empires inherited from other Star Trek settings. It extends from the Alpha Sector to the Delta Sector, but only Alpha, Beta and Gamma have been extensively explored by the major powers of the region.Omega Octant
The Omega Octant runs from the Void in the Omega Sector through the Psi, Chi and Phi Sectors, and is detailed in a series of Star Fleet Battles modules. Over two dozen empires have operated in this region; some remain a factor in the Octant throughout the modern era, others rise at an early time only to be crushed or sidelined, while still others only enter the scene at a later point in history. Notable powers include the Mæsron Alliance, the Trobrin Empire, the Probr Revolution, the Drex Unity, the Sigvirion Expansion, and the Federal Republic of Aurora.History
Star Fleet Universe products outline an extensive history that serve as the backdrop of the games. The usual chronology uses an Earth-based calendar, with dates given in "Y-years". These are written as Y168, or August Y168, and are dated to the year Earth first made contact with the Vulcans. A direct conversion to familiar Anno Domini dating is not given; however, the Federation and Empire rules state that Y0 should be somewhere between AD 2020 and AD 2090, the Federation Commander rules arbitrarily set it as AD 2400 and consistently use 'AD' dates derived from that rather than use 'Y-year' nomenclature, while an option setting the date at 2063 is known as the Amin-Audeh Chronology. In all cases, it is stated that the actual date cannot be precisely known. As this chronology was created completely separately from anything done for Star Trek after the Original Series, it cannot be reconciled directly with current Star Trek canon. As an example of the incompatibilities arising from the separate evolution of the two visions of Star Trek history, the SFU defines the "five-year mission" of the original Star Trek series as being from Y155 to Y160, which by Paramount's chronology would put Y0 at AD 2108; while if one accepts the definition of Y0, it should be the year of the movie , AD 2063.
While the time periods recorded in the Alpha Octant, Small Magellanic Cloud and Triangulum Galaxy are only loosely arranged into particular eras, the history of the Omega Octant is broken down into 'Cycles', as recorded by the Chlorophon race. Such Cycles cover the defining events of each period, such as the Pax Mæsra and the Invasions.
Alpha Octant history
The first, earliest products published in the Star Fleet Universe presented material pertaining to the races and empires of the Alpha Octant during the period of the Middle years. The first product, the Pocket Edition, presented the Federation, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Empire, the Kzinti Hegemony, the Gorn Confederation, the Orion Pirates, and the Tholian Holdfast. Excluding these last two, the various powers were loosely aligned into two opposing camps headed by the two superpowers, the Federation and the Klingons. The Romulans were Klingon allies, and the Kzintis and Gorns were Federation allies. The Tholians separated the Klingons and Romulans at the galactic rim, and thus posed an obstacle to their cooperation. Meanwhile, the Orions occupied an enclave within Federation territory and thus created problems for them.
The product Expansion #1 added the Hydran Kingdom to the galactic rim bordering the Klingons on the far side opposite the Federation. The extragalactic Andromedan Invaders were also introduced to pose difficulties for all the Alpha Octant races as a more-or-less random nuisance. In Expansion #2 the Lyran Empire was introduced to serve as a balancing factor in favor of the now-surrounded Klingons. The Lyrans border the Klingons on the far side opposite the Federation, and thus are natural enemies of the Kzintis and Hydrans.
Commander's Edition Volume III added the Interstellar Concordium, positioned astride the Gorns and Romulans, as an independent major power. This was to be the last major power to be made part of the Alpha Octant. Later products added minor one-hex and zero-hex races such as the WYN star cluster, the Jindarians, the Seltorians, and the Lyran Democratic Republic. The Orion Pirates, originally presented as a monolithic quasi-corporate entity home-based within the Orion Enclave inside Federation territory, were further differentiated into various "clans" or branches operating out of various territories scattered among all the major races of the Octant. There were also further reinforcements added to the Tholians and the Andromedan Invaders from their extragalactic places of origin.
It is useful to visualize the Alpha Octant as a circular clock face representing the Federation, the largest territory here. Conceived thus, the Kzinti Hegemony would border the Federation's "west" edge along the clock's circumference between the 10 o'clock and 11:30 o'clock positions. On the Federation's "east" edge would be the Gorns between the 12:30 o'clock and 2 o'clock positions. Back in the west, the Klingons share a long border with the Federation between the 10 o'clock and 6:30 o'clock positions. In the east, the Romulans share a long border with the Federation between the 2 o'clock and 5:30 o'clock positions. The Tholians occupy the portion of the galaxy's edge between the 5:30 and 6:30 positions, sandwiched between the Klingons and Romulans. The Hydrans occupy the galactic rim on the far side of the Klingons opposite from the Federation, between the 7:30 and 8 o'clock positions. The Lyrans occupy the far western edge of the Klingons between the 10 o'clock and 8 o'clock positions, where they border the Kzintis and Hydrans respectively. The Interstellar Concordium occupies all of the far eastern edge of the Alpha Octant, bordering both the Gorns and Romulans.
Non-Tactical Warp
Most races of the Alpha Octant discover warp drive around the same time, with the exception of the Vulcans and some other future Federation members, who had been in space for some time, and the Jindarians, who have been in space longer than Humans have existed. Warp drives render a ship extremely vulnerable to weapons damage, so all combat is fought at sub-light speeds, with ships moving strategically at faster than light speeds. All races are just beginning to expand and colonize, so wars are uncommon—but not unknown. The Romulans in particular fight both the Gorn and Earth.Early years
The "Early Years" start with the introduction of tactical warp drive in Y62. Module Y1 for SFB presents two distinct generations of ships. the W-era, which mostly consists of non-tactical warp ships converted to tactical-warp, and later, more powerful Y-era ships which were built for combat at FTL speeds.During this period, the fleeing Tholians arrive in the Milky Way Galaxy. The Klingons and Lyrans manage to conquer all of Hydran space other than three 'lost colonies'. The Klingons make a major effort to reclaim territory from the Tholians, reaching their dyson sphere home world before being defeated. Sixteen Orion ship crews mutiny, disappearing, and becoming the nucleus for the Orion Pirates. A Kzinti civil war ends when the Usurper sends his ships into an energetic nebula, rather than face capture. The Usurper finds the nebula is hollow and sets up a government in the WYN Cluster.
Middle years
This is the era that SFB started out in, the era of '. It starts in Y120 with the introduction of the first 'normal' ships. Technology and borders are fairly constant through this era, but several important things do happen. The Federation colony Aurora disappears in a massive ion storm. It has actually been transported to the Omega octant where it becomes the capital of a minor interstellar state. The Hydran lost colonies build an all-new fleet and retake the Kingdom in a surprise campaign.
The Four Powers War' involves the Klingons, Kzintis, Lyrans and Hydrans in the biggest armed conflict yet seen in Alpha octant from Y158 to Y162. The Klingons and Lyrans, forming the Coalition together, do well at first, but the tide of war changes with the introduction of Hydran Helbore Torpedoes and Kzinti fighters. Both sides accept a status quo antebellum'' peace rather than prolong the conflict. All nations in the Alpha Octant realize that nothing has been resolved and that another major war is just a matter of time. The next decade is marked by the development of new ship designs and refits to improve existing ships.
The General War
In August Y168 the war came which would eventually suck in all the major powers of the Alpha Octant, with the sole exception of the Interstellar Concordium. First the Lyrans and Klingons attack the Kzinti Hegemony, then the Hydrans attack them, with the understanding that they are the next target of the Lyran-Klingon Coalition. The Hydran capital falls, the Coalition assaults the Kzinti homeworld, and the Federation starts preparing to intervene on behalf of the Kzintis. With war against the Hydrans and Kzintis wrapping up, and the Federation mobilizing, the Klingons invade the Federation in Y171, and convince the Romulans to join the Coalition in Y173. The Coalition drives deep into Federation space before the lines stabilize, with the Gorn Confederacy joining the Federation-led Alliance in Y174. The situation becomes a large-scale stalemate with both sides fighting back and forth in "devastated zones" that have been denuded of pre-war bases. The superior Federation economy, and the toll of several years of war prior to invading the Federation, cause the war to slowly turn in the Alliance's favor. The Hydrans recover and make a drive back to their capital in Y178, and Federation and Gorn fleets make a strike into Romulan space that ends with the devastation of the secondary capital, Remus, in Y181. Finally, a cease-fire that leaves the original borders mostly intact is agreed to in Y185, with all parties thoroughly exhausted. This eighteen-year period of conflict is the main focus of current SFU products. Most new SFB products contain ships and variants that appeared or took part in the conflict. With a very few exceptions all Federation and Empire scenarios revolve around the General War in whole or in part. The ships presented in Federation Commander are the fully refitted versions that appear about midway through the war.
Post-General War era
The peace following the General War did not last long. All the powers of the Alpha Octant were exhausted militarily and economically, with the sole exception of the Interstellar Concordium, which remained effectively isolated from the destruction because of its location on the far eastern borders of the Gorns and Romulans. A peaceful and isolationist race, the ISC was horrified at the devastation wrought by the General War. They quickly constructed the most powerful fleet of starships in the now-ravaged Alpha Octant. They then used it to launch a "Pacification Program", determined to save the other races from themselves. The ISC occupied the border areas of all the major powers in the "ISC Conquest", in the hopes that if the fleets surviving the General War could be kept apart, future conflicts could be prevented. By Y188 ISC forces had reached Lyran space on the far side of the Octant and had spread everywhere in 'peacekeeping' duties.Andromedan ships had been encountered at random in steadily increasing numbers since Y166. In Y188 they launched the Andromedan invasion, which decimated the spread-out forces of the ISC, and put great pressure on all of the major powers of the Alpha Octant before the secret of their transportation network was discovered in Y195. In Y201 the galactic powers counterattacked in Operation Unity, which traced the Andromedans back to their main base in the Small Magellanic Cloud and stopped the invasion by destroying the starbase there in Y202.
Past that point, there has not been much information published in any SFU game, though there are references to a second generation of X-Technology and Trade Wars in Y205, and an invasion of the Alpha Octant by the Xorkaelians in Y210.
Various versions of the official timeline have ended in Y225: "Presumably a third generation of X-ships was developed, but The Next Generation is not within the scope of the Star Fleet Universe." This is presumably a humorous reference to and the fact that SFB has no license for Star Trek materials outside of TOS and TAS.
Wartime technological advances
Throughout the SFU timeline, ship systems steadily advanced in capability. The most important of these was warp propulsion technology, because improvements in warpspeed capability made interstellar combat possible across ever-larger distances and made access to ever-larger battlefronts practical. Advances in weapons technology, however, surged during the years of major war. The Octant-wide General War, in particular, spurred the most rapid advances ever in galactic history.Starship construction technology jumped with the development of "wartime construction" cruisers early in the General War. The general-purpose starships built earlier were overbuilt for long-range long-duration missions far from their bases with minimal logistical support. Besides doing away with these peacetime extravagances, the new "war cruisers", as they were popularly known, employed newer technologies that made possible miniaturized systems. Thus more weapons of improved design could be mounted on more efficient hulls. The war cruisers mounted heavy cruiser firepower on light cruiser hulls. As examples: the Klingon D5 war cruiser was equipped with range-30 disruptors where the larger D6 only had range-22 disruptors, and they had hemispherical firing arcs. The DERFACS fire control enhanced long range accuracy. The new Kzinti Medium Cruiser had double drone control capability that even the Battlecruiser lacked. The Lyran CW came with an Ubitron Interface Module as standard equipment, which improved disruptor accuracy at overload range. The technology that made the wartime construction ships possible was generalized and expanded to most all classes throughout all major warfleets. These kinds of improvements were extended to the wartime destroyer classes, despite the smaller hull volumes available. Later in the war, the war cruiser technology was applied to heavy cruiser hulls, creating the classes known as the New Heavy Cruisers. The new technology also made possible even heavier versions of existing "heavy" and "command" designs, such as the Heavy Command Cruisers and Heavy Battlecruisers. It became salient as the years of the General War progressed that more fighting starships were sporting more and more weapons and systems of ever-greater capability.
This trend reached a peak in Y175 when all the major warfleets began issuing major "refits", as they were called. In traditional naval terminology, "refit" denotes a refurbishment of worn machinery on board a vessel. In the SFU, the term refit denotes an upgrade to the systems of a starship, either in capability or in number. Each available refit was peculiar to its class of starship, but most refits added extra energy production systems, extra shield capacity, expanded firing arcs for existing weapons, as well as additional weapons. The refit for the D7, for example, upgraded the three Phaser-2s in the boom to Phaser-1s, upgraded the drone racks to Type-B, fixed the famous "glass shields" protecting the rear quarters, and added a valuable anti-drone rack. The Kzinti Y175 refits upgraded the drone racks, added double drone control, and sometimes added power or Phaser-3s. Most Hydran classes gained Phaser-1s in the forward hull. Federation ships gained a multipurpose drone rack and phaser-3s. Ships of the plasma races received pairs of defensive "plasma racks" for antifighter/antidrone work. Most of their ships also got upgraded plasma torpedoes; Type G launchers were usually upgraded to Type S, and on smaller ships Type F to Type L.
During the General War another trend became apparent: specialty warfare ships. The fleet scout was the most prominent example. These were equipped with "special sensors" that performed a great many electronic warfare functions over and above those of the combat starships. Chiefly, they could "lend" defensive EW points to friendly ships within 15 hexes, or lend offensive ECM points onto a key enemy ship within 15 hexes. Scouts could guide friendly drones or break the lockons of hostile drones. They were also prime targets for the enemy fleet, and had typically short life expectancies in heavy combat. Other examples of specialty warfare ships were drone bombardment ships, carrier escorts, tugs, exploration or "survey" ships, and repair and resupply ships. Another category of specialty ship was the "fast" starship with a new type of "hot" warp drive that gave extra power and speed, but at the expense of less hull volume for mission equipment. These ships gave an advantage in rapid deployment between battle theaters, and so served as a "swing" force for strategic repositioning between fleets on different fronts. There was also a variety of specialty starships designed specifically for base-busting. The most notorious of these were the "Maulers", which mounted on their keels a huge energy cannon which drew its power directly from the ship's warp engines and huge banks of batteries. This was the only direct-fire weapon in the game that did not use a die roll to determine the damage scored on the target; only the range and the energy input determined the damage. Mauler technology was only deployed by the three races of the Coalition. The Romulans also deployed their Sparrowhawk-J for base-busting, and the Hydrans had their Fire Support Pallet for their Tug with four hellbores mounted broadsides.
Likely the most important technological advance made during the General War in the west was the fast drone. Early drones could only make speeds 8 or 12, and target starships could easily evade them while still threatening the ships that launched them. These slow drones made the Anchor tactic practically mandatory for the Kzintis, who relied on drones for most of their firepower. Just before the war's start, the speed-20 drones appeared. These could still be evaded but were difficult to avoid while attacking the launcher starship. In Y180 the fastest type F or speed-32 drones began appearing in the war, and these proved devastatingly effective, though expensive. Many other drone improvements became available to the drone-using races: multi-warhead drones, spearfish and swordfish drones with specialized warheads, Active Terminal Guidance, and armored drones which were more difficult to intercept. The Electronic Warfare Drone revolutionized starship fighting tactics because it made its parent ship more difficult to hit. Finally, the long-range bombardment drone, with its specialized carrier starship, won many battles for their users throughout the war. They became ever-more-powerful with the ongoing development of superior drone ammunition.
These technology improvements made to the miniature warp engines powering drones made possible the development of ordinary shuttlecraft into the decisive "attack shuttle", which became generalized by the term "fighter". In their earliest forms they merely augmented starship firepower, but developed into formidable "economy-of-force" or "attrition" weapons that decided the most important battles of the early General War. The Kzintis, then the Federation, built entire fleets around a core of fighter-toting "carrier" starships.. Eventually all the major races deployed fighters; even races that had no indigenous fighter capabilities purchased them from their allies and themselves deployed carrier battle groups.
While the earliest fighters were faster, hardier, and sported only a small phaser or two, their successors gained heavy weapons. Swarms of Hydran Stingers menaced starships with the fearsome Gatling phaser. Electronic warfare capabilities improved greatly. The deployment of booster packs for fighter warp engines denied starships the ability to evade them for long without abandoning the battlespace in retreat. The production of double-size heavy fighters and later bombers and MegaFighters threatened even the largest combat starships and starbases.
Advances in fighter propulsion led to the development of the "hot warp" engine, which made possible the Fast Patrol ships which dominated the battles of the later General War period. These PFs could roam the battlespace faster than Warp 3 with surplus power for offensive weapons, yet were inexpensive and quickly built enough to replace their battle losses in all but the most savage campaigns. Importantly, the Scout PF variants had the ability to "go wild" on command and perform as a Federation SWAC shuttle acting as a Wild Weasel decoy for seeking weapons. Previously, only the Federation had this capability in its SWAC shuttle which only deployed with the rare CV battle groups. Altogether, the swift nimble PFs proved all but invulnerable to seeking weapons. Only the X-ships prevented them from sweeping all other warship classes from the field of battle.
The ultimate advance made during the closing years of the General War was "X-Technology". This is a reference to a set of new technologies that started appearing on ships in Y180. By and large, new ships were built with this technology, a few older ships were completely rebuilt to use it, and a few ships had individual systems upgraded to use parts of the new technology. After the end of The General War, more and more ships received these partial upgrades, allowing older designs to stay relevant next to the steadily increasing number of X-ships.
Typically a ship or a ship design upgraded with X-Technology received new warp engines with one-third greater power output, and the movement cost of the ship's hull remained unchanged. This resulted in a great surplus of available energy. Also, the ship's batteries could hold three times more energy than before. This extra "reserve power" as it is termed provided a decisive advantage over opponents with older technology batteries.
Most important for combat were the improved weapons technology. Weapons that formerly took two turns to arm could be "crash loaded" in one turn. Klingon cruisers gained disruptor capacitors and two extra disruptors. Plasma cruisers formerly armed with two Type-S torpedoes had these weapons upgraded to the new "Type-M" torpedo specially designed for this upgrade. The Type-M hit for 40 damage points maximum, rather than the Type-S's 30 hit points. Drone-using ships got speed-32 drones that gave and took more damage points, and fired from drone racks at a faster rate and with greater capacity. For all races, phasers upgraded with X-Technology could be overloaded with extra arming energy and produce fifty percent greater damage. They could also fire in "rapid pulse" mode as a type of Gatling phaser, tearing up fighters, drones, and plasmas.
X-Technology was outlawed for the Dreadnought and Fast Patrol Ships. Overall, most other ship systems were improved with the X-Technology upgrade. Ships gained advantages in EW over ordinary ships, could maneuver faster and more nimbly, and had greater shield capacity. Their expense grew far greater, also, but an X-destroyer was a match even for a cruiser with non-x technology. X-Technology put an end to the reign of the PF flotilla, and decisively defeated the Andromedans during Operation Unity.
Other Milky Way factions and Octants
The Jindarians
The Jindarians are known to be found throughout the Alpha and Omega Octants, with two-to-three caravans extant in the SMC. They are described as having been in space for longer than Homo sapiens has been on Earth, use hollow asteroids for their ships and travel in unrelated caravans. Beyond the Freehold, they care little about borders, governments, and wars; instead travelling from system to system, mining asteroid belts and trading with the locals. They push aside any competition using their warp augmented railguns to fire thousands of cubic meters of gravel and rock at opponent vessels. In the SMC, their legacy was far-reaching; the Jumokian rebels fleeing the Eneen conquest of their home world developed asteroid shipyards based on Jindarian templates, and later passed these on to the Magellanic forces driven into exile by the Andromedan invasion. The Xorkaelian Empire
The fearsome Xorkaelians control six Sectors, from Kappa to Omicron on the far side of the galaxy from the Alpha Octant, serving as a grim reminder of their might. It is known that they have sent occasional raids to the Alpha Octant for some time, and invaded the Alpha races sometime after the Andromedan War, but nothing has been published about these events at the time of writing. Their ships are reported to have a modular design, but little else of this race has been revealed.Sargasso Storm Octant
The Sargasso Octant contains Zeta, Eta, and Theta Sectors. It has not been covered by any product but is known to experience periods of truly massive ion storms that make interstellar travel impossible for decades at a time throughout the octant. It is believed to be home to some 20 races who live in protected enclaves and come out between storms to claim available resources.Sigma Octant
The Sigma Octant contains Tau, Sigma and Rho Sectors. It has not been covered by any product at this time but is known to be inhabited.Other galaxies
Andromeda Galaxy
So far, only one empire has been revealed as originating from M31, but it has made quite an impact on the Star Fleet Universe...; Andromedan Invaders
Small Magellanic Cloud
The Small Magellanic Cloud is composed of three main regions: the densely populated Core, a ring of provinces with "standard" stellar densities, and an outer Fringe region where stars and planets are much fewer and further between. Beyond the Fringe worlds lies the Chomak Cluster, a collection of stars only recently captured by the Cloud's gravitational field.Module C5 for SFB presented five of the Magellanic empires: the Baduvai Imperium, the Eneen Protectorates, the Maghadim Hives, the Uthiki Harmony and the Jumokian Resistance. Others, such as the ancient Chomak Community and the reclusive Yrol Septs, await publication.
In the decades prior to the Andromedan arrival, several wars were waged between the three Magellanic Powers, most notably for control of the strategically vital Neutral Worlds. Unfortunately for these empires, the Andromedans eventually sought to conquer the Cloud outright, in order to claim it as an advanced base of operations for their full-scale invasion of the Milky Way Galaxy. In the face of this common threat, the rival powers formed the Triple Pact: a desperate, and ultimately doomed, joint bid for survival. Once Operation Unity succeeded in subduing the Andromedans, the surviving Magellanic forces took to re-building their fallen empires, though it would take a long time for any of them to approach their former glory.
M81 Galaxy
The original location of the Tholian Will was M81, a galaxy outside the Local Group. Before the Seltorian revolt, it was controlled completely by the Tholians, with the exception of isolated nebulae from which the Nebuline species helped support M81 piracy. In addition, this galaxy was once home to the Bolosco Merchant Guilds, later found in the Omega Octant.; The Seltorian Tribunal : After their successful revolt, the Seltorians kept the same basic political structure as the Tholian Will in place, just with themselves in charge. Fearful of an eventual Tholian return, they have sent out large nest ships as mobile bases of operation against any remnants of the Tholians they locate. It is unknown just how many expeditions were sent out, but it is known that one did go to the Andromeda Galaxy, as well as to the Milky Way.
The Iridani Cluster
Adjacent to the Omega Octant of the Milky Way Galaxy, the Iridani Cluster is home to one rather adventurous space-faring race presented in the SFB Omega-series modules...; The Iridani Questors : Otter-like party goers, the Iridani frequently travel to neighbouring galaxies, such as the Milky Way and the Small Magellanic Cloud, in single ships performing "Knightly" quests. Their Cluster was conquered by the Andromedans in the Y190s, but there were so many Iridani in the Milky Way that their fleet was able to band together for the greatest Quest of all: the liberation of their home worlds.
