Steinhof


Steinhof is a former municipality in the district of Wasseramt in the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland. It is an enclave in the canton of Bern. The municipality of Steinhof merged on 1 January 2012 into the municipality of Aeschi.

History

Steinhof is first mentioned in 1201 as Heinricus de Steine. It was first mentioned as Steinhof in 1766.

Geography

Steinhof had an area,, of. Of this area, or 63.4% is used for agricultural purposes, while or 29.3% is forested. Of the rest of the land, or 6.1% is settled, or 0.6% is either rivers or lakes.
Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 3.7% and transportation infrastructure made up 2.4%. Out of the forested land, all of the forested land area is covered with heavy forests. Of the agricultural land, 37.2% is used for growing crops and 24.4% is pastures, while 1.8% is used for orchards or vine crops. All the water in the municipality is flowing water.
The municipality is located in the Wasseramt district. The village is an exclave of Solothurn and is surrounded by the Canton of Bern.

In the 2007 federal election the most popular party was the SVP which received 26.29% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the CVP, the SP and the FDP. In the federal election, a total of 63 votes were cast, and the voter turnout was 56.8%.
