Stephen Barrett (Irish politician)


Stephen Declan Barrett was an Irish Fine Gael politician, barrister and judge. He was married to Elisabeth Magnier of Fermoy. He was first elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fine Gael Teachta Dála for the Cork Borough constituency at the 1954 by-election caused by the death of Thomas F. O'Higgins of Fine Gael. He was re-elected at each subsequent general election until he retired from politics at the 1969 general election. He served as Lord Mayor of Cork from 1960 to 1961.
He later became a Circuit Court judge. He was the father-in-law of Edward M. Walsh, the former president of the University of Limerick.
