Stevan Marković (bodyguard)

Stevan Marković was a bodyguard for movie star Alain Delon. He was found murdered in 1968.

Early days

In the 1950s Marković and his friend Milos Milos were involved in streetfighting in Belgrade. They met Alain Delon, a young movie star at the time, who was filming a movie in Belgrade in a co-production with SFR Yugoslavia. Delon employed Milos Milos and later Stevan Marković as his bodyguard. He was good friends with Serbian gangster Nikola Milinković. Stevan was in the first column of the convoy of Nikola's burial.

Paris rise

By virtue of his being in constant company with Delon as well as his looks and charisma, Marković came in contact with the French jet-set. It has also been speculated that he was a male prostitute.

Murder

In 1968, the body of Stevan Marković was found in the outskirts of Paris. Alain Delon was under investigation, but was never accused. One of the factors pointing in his direction was a letter by Marković to his brother Aleksandar where he wrote: "If I get killed, it's 100% fault of Alain Delon and his godfather François Marcantoni."
His death provoked a political scandal, the Marković affair, involving French Prime minister Georges Pompidou.
