Steven Sim


Steven Sim Chee Keong, is the former Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports in the Cabinet of Malaysia. He is a Malaysian politician from the Democratic Action Party, a component party of the Pakatan Harapan coalition. He is the incumbent Member of Parliament for Bukit Mertajam constituency. He also sits on the Board of Directors of Penang Institute, a public policy think-tank based in Penang, Malaysia.
In January 2011, he was appointed as a Councillor of the Seberang Perai Municipal Council, one of the largest municipalities in Malaysia.
He writes regularly for Penang Monthly as well as contributes opinion pieces to prominent Malaysian online news portals such as Malaysiakini and the Malaysian Insider. He is also the author of "The Audacity to Think: An Invitation to Rethink Politics".
In 2012, Steven Sim was named as a Young Global Leader of the Geneva-based World Economic Forum.
Sim also is the alumni of SK Stowell and Bukit Mertajam High School and can communicate fluently in English, Malay, Hokkien and Mandarin.

Education and pre-political career

Sim graduated from University of Malaya in computer science and served in a multinational corporation for three years before joining the Penang state government in 2008.
