Sun Xueling


Sun Xueling , is a Singaporean politician and business executive who has served as Minister of State in the Ministry for Education and Ministry for Social and Family Development since July 2020. She served as the Senior Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry for Home Affairs and Ministry for National Development from May 2018 to July 2020. A member of the country's governing People's Action Party, she has served as the Member of Parliament for Punggol West SMC since July 2020. She also served as the MP for Pasir Ris–Punggol GRC for Punggol West from September 2015 to June 2020.

Education

Sun graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Economics and completed her Master of Science in International Political Economy with Merit from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Career

Sun started her career at the Economic Development Board in 2003 before joining DBS Bank Ltd as an Assistant Vice-President.
She had also spent a large part of her career in Hong Kong and China, where she was a Director with Deutsche Bank AG.
Sun was director of the Investment Group of Temasek International, focusing on investment opportunities in developing markets such as China and Latin America prior to joining politics in September 2015.
After being elected into politics in September 2015, Sun took on the role of CEO, Business China,
a non-profit organization started by Lee Kuan Yew in 2007 to promote bilingualism and biculturalism. Sun also sits on the Board for the Chinese Development Assistance Council.

Political career

In 2015, the People's Action Party announced that Sun would contest in the Pasir Ris–Punggol Group Representation Constituency during the 2015 general election after being introduced during a tree planting event. She now serves as Member of Parliament for Punggol West. Sun also serves as the Women's Wing North East District Adviser in Singapore, and as Deputy Chairperson of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Communications and Information. Sun also sits on the Government Parliamentary Committee for Trade and Industry/Finance and the Government Parliamentary Committee for Community, Culture and Youth.
Before 2015, Sun was a long-time grassroots volunteer in the People's Action Party at Buona Vista, and is an advocate of women and mothers' rights. She received the Service Award at the Young PAP Awards in 2004, and was also the assistant secretary of the youth sub-committee of the Buona Vista Citizens' Consultative Committees under the People's Association in 2004 and became the assistant secretary of the committee in 2006.
On 25 July 2020, Sun was announced Minister of State for the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social and Family development.

Personal life

Sun is married with two daughters. Her hobbies include reading and swimming.
